"Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet." - Thich Nhat Hanh
I find a place to be barefoot. When I stand on cool, wet, grass, or a hot stone that's been warmed by the sun, I can feel that the world around me is moving. Time is passing and there is nothing I can do to change a single thing. In that moment of powerlessness, a transformation begins. Knowing the earth is doing her part in giving me space to breathe and stand, I begin looking inward.
How am I the same person as the woman who stripped off her sandals to feel the sting of heat on this stone? And more importantly, when is the last time I did this? Without even a yoga mat between my skin and the ground?
I hear my place is at the table, where I can share my ideas.
I hear my place is in the kitchen, where I can prepare fresh food to nourish myself, and others.
But my place is also right here. In stillness, vulnerably bare. It is what I hear the least, but it moves me the most.
I can say with certainty that bareness used to scare me, but now, it is something I crave.
