Owl Moon Farm crosses my mind all the time. It is where I realized just how much I want to have a small family farm one day. The owners were out early in the morning collecting eggs and it seemed like such a great space for a family (immediate and extended) to enjoy. Feeling so close to the earth and nature brings unspeakable joy to my life.
In this travel post, I am invite you back to winter 2016 at a place called Owl Moon Farm. My husband I rented this beautiful place for a weekend getaway. I am going through lots of photos right now putting together memory books and I could not pass up the chance to share this beautiful home and farm in Lexingon, Virginia located only 3 hours from downtown DC.
Welcome to Lexington, Virginia! I got married on a mountain in this town so it has a special place in my heart. When I saw this cabin and farm online I knew we to go! It can sleep over seven guests but it was time we wanted for ourselves. Plus, enjoying some extra square footage feels good sometimes. And so, we prepared some meals, packed our bags, and enjoyed the chilliest, sunniest weekend!
The owner's home is on the property and we were greeted by this two furry friends! They were so sweet.

One thing I remember the most about this place is the LIGHT. The layout of the space is such that natural light beams into the kitchen and bathroom, and then gently flows into the living room area. The kitchen was stocked with local coffee, condiments, pots and pans...really anything you would need to make a meal.
We decided to prepare in advance bringing pasta, meatballs, and salad. It's a meal that is filling and enjoyable for lunch or dinner. It was really effortless to heat up servings as we wished. In the morning we had eggs, fruit, and toast.
I still remember my husband opening his Valentine's day gift at this table. The gift was a print of a few lines of my vows to him in a special wood frame.

There is a big living room space with a small desk to sit and write, comfortable couches, a nook to read with children's books and some toys, and a bedroom.
Each room had that charming farmhouse feel with quilts and thoughtful books. I ended up writing down a whole list of things to read when I got home. There were upstairs and downstairs bedrooms.
The bathroom, decorated so sweetly. There's also a big tub in here, which I loved!
The grounds of the property are so spacious. We wandered through open fields surrounded by mountains. And sometimes the farm dogs would follow, which was really fun! We watched the chickens and the goats. It was all so calming and peaceful. I really enjoyed being in this kind of element.
One last tip: Before we left the farm we did drive into downtown Lexington to grab a meal and some coffee before we hit the road back to DC (we rented a car from the airport, as we do not own a car). It was only a 15 minute drive to reach Main Street. Overall we really found ourselves drawn to the peace and quiet of Owl Moon and stayed there the majority of the time.
Though it is somewhat dated and out of season, I truly thank you for reading this post! I can only imagine that Owl Moon Farm is even better than it was when we visited. I talk about going back all the time! I have a few other travels I would like to post (China, Japan, Thailand!), maybe as Throwback Thursday kind of posts!
